Task 1

SWBAT: create a descriptive poem about the different cities in Brazil using figurative language and couplets.
In this task you will use new geography vocabulary to describe the different cities you visit in Brazil.  You will also use figurative language to write a poem about the countries cities.
  1. Explore all of the cities on the following site
  2. Complete the graphic organizer with your observations for each city
  3. Use your observation to write a poem about Brazil

Task 2

SWBAT: differentiate between the layers of the Amazon Rainforest
It is now time to take a trip to the Amazon Rain Forest where you will learn about the different layers of the forest.
  1. Read the Layers of the Rain Forest Article (individually or in pairs) and fill in the Vocabulary Worksheet.
  2. Research and/or think of animals and plants that live in the different layers.
  3. Fill in the Venn Diagram. 
  4. As individuals or in small groups, each is responsible for depicting one layer of the rain forest on the class mural.
  5. Label all plant and animal life for identification.
We will hang the final product to represent the Amazon Rainforest.

Rainforest Animals
SWBAT:  Create a rain forest in a bottle to represent the Amazon rain forest ecosystem
  1. Follow the directions to build a rain forest in a bottle.  
  2. Label each layer of the rain forest.
  3. Create animal representations to tape to the bottle and represent the wildlife in each layer
  4. Observe your creation as the year goes on and explain what is happening to your plant.
